The Extra Mile

We really like to go the extra mile for our clients, to make sure they are 100% satisfied when we finish our work. Here's a good example of how we strived to do just that recently:

Last month, we began an exterior painting project in Central Ottawa that included changing the colour scheme of a front porch shared by two neighbours (as you can see in the before/after shot above.) But what you can't see in that photo is a tiny little inconsistency that really annoyed our client: The two neighbouring front doors were the same in every way, except for some reason one had a decorative moulding with an inset pattern on the transom, and the other had nothing.

After consulting with a carpenter and deciding that the cost to have a matching moulding with the same design made and installed was more than they wanted to pay, the issue was dropped and they decided they would live with the mis-match.

So on the last day of the job, as a surprise,  I brought in one of our painters who enjoys doing murals and other specialty painting to the site and he traced stencils of the semicircle and the decorative curlicue, and painted a two-tone image that mimicked the the look of the neighbour's moulding.

Here are the results:

Needless to say, when our client came home that day to find that not only had we finished everything we said we would paint, skillfully and on schedule, but that we had also gone out of our way to fix something small that really got on their nerves as well, and for no added cost... she was over the moon happy, and we had a new customer for life!

Read what this client had to say about her Strokes of Genius Painting experience in this review that she so kindly posted to Homestars for us: Ottawa Painters Reviews.
